Boiler Technologies: Cast Iron Boilers

Cast iron boilers are limited to low-pressure steam or hot water applications. Often called sectional boilers, cast iron boilers are made up of a number of cast iron sections, which can be assembled on site for retrofit applications. The typical form is the shape of a box that has a circulator pump, electric box, and flue stub connected to the box. These boilers are small in size and readily available from many vendors. Multiple boilers can be ganged together for increased loads and act in a modular fashion that improves efficiency and prevents a situation where there is no heat available if a boiler fails.

Capacity/Energy Input
